Stand By Your Van
Menagerie/The Pleasance/ Escalator East To Edinburgh
England | World Premiere

A spectacular new “live competition” play about desire, hope, endurance... and a very big pick-up truck! The Pleasance Grand has never seen anything like it… there’s a £25,000 pickup truck in the middle of the stage and 12 contestants are holding onto to it – all desperate to win it. All they have to do is be the last person standing, with their hands having never left the surface of the truck… Sounds easy, right? Wrong. Based on true contests, this fictional re-creation is a powerful new play reflecting on a world where people will do anything to win. We witness gruelling pain and determination, alongside hilarity and utter lunacy induced by hours without sleep.
Our twelve “hard core, do or die” competitors include a lady who believes “God won’t let her lose”, a revengeful ex-con, a lapsed Buddhist, a foul-mouthed little old lady, a desperate glamour model and a student who lives exclusively on energy drinks. If they want to win they must exist side by side for three days and nights. But only one will ultimately be left standing… you just know its going to be explosive!!!
Someone’s gonna win a truck!!
Warning: Contains strong language.
